New X-Men 28

Sigh.

This title has become unbelievably dull. A year of death, death, death. The older X-Men acting stupidly while the kids are killed to show just how serious and intense the new NXM is supposed to be.

This wasn't a surprise, since Yost & Kyle have shown themself to be fond of sacrificing character development and consistency in order to focus on blood and "drama", but it's such a waste. I feel sorry for Jay and Laurie and all the others who have been/will be shoved aside or cut to pieces so we can have more of Wolverette and The Thing v2 (they're still putting Rockslide on NXM covers, I just don't understand it).

The death of one of the New Mutants should /matter/ but it has little impact now when it's pretty much expected that every issue will have at least one casualty.

I agree. I dropped this book a while back, because I was tired of the killing. Meaningless death = lazy storytelling. The whole mischaracterization/death of Jay Guthrie was the last straw for me. The only reasons I actually stuck with the title as long I did was Icarus and Anole.

As for Wolverette...I am so sick of Wolverine and his clones/pastiches being shoved down my throat. I've read Yost's and Kyle's various comments on message boards, and it's clear to me that this mode of storytelling is here to stay in NXM, so I won't be reading the title again for some time.

I have to admit that the board behaviour of the writers is making me less inclined to wait until this storyline ends before judging their run (but it's going to take at least another four issues, so...) or make excuses for things I don't like about the stories. I saw Yost quote a whole post that reasonably explained why the poster strongly disagreed with the direction of the story/the way it was handled, /only/ to say "Glad you're enjoying the series." Now, my memory may be a little off (did he say series or title?), but I do remember that there was no reference to the content of the post. That little one-sentence reply came across as utterly dismissive of the concerns being articulately voiced by the poster in that thread.

My love for Anole, Dust and Prodigy isn't enough to make me stick around any longer.

Right up there with their constant stating "It's selling more books" as a response to any bad comments.

Honestly. I still don't know if Jay is really dead. At this point I wish he died so many issues ago when he first showed up at the door. I would save me the waiting and the money.

Alot of people are saying it's not focusing on the clone but come on she's the one that did everything saved everyone *but* Jay whom she left to die. If she can freaking smell metal she can smell someone dying. And the next arc after this Nimrod crap is over is focusing on her PLUS the new mini she is getting they can't say they are not pushing her on the book.

I live in hope that all is not what it seems, when it comes to Jay... *sighs*
